5 Days Morocco Desert Tour

Day 1:Arrival in Tangier – Drive to Chefchaouen (112 km / approx. 2-3 hours)

Your 5 Day Morocco Tour from Tangier starts with a pickup by your driver guide from Tangier Ibn Battuta Airport. Spend a little time seeing the highlights of Tangier before your departure to Chefchaouen. Visit the mythical Hercules Cave, then stop for a panoramic view at Cape Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea.

Lastly, wander at the Old Medina. In the afternoon, venture into the Rif Mountains and enter the blue-hued town of Chefchaouen. Just throw down your bags and head out for a leisurely evening through its photogenic alleyways or in its main square. Overnight in Chefchaouen.

Day 2:Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes (Approx. 5-6 hours / 200 km)

Experience the calm of the morning in Chefchaouen, after breakfast leave the peaceful town behind and travel south to Volubilis – Morocco’s best preserved Roman ruins. Stroll down its millenary streets that still feature mosaics, temples and columns in perfect condition. Visiting this unique site with a local guide will add to the experience a charm.

Later Proceed to Meknes, the former capital of the kingdom, to see the heavily decorated Bab Mansour Gate, El Hedim square and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. In the late afternoon, drive to Fes, the country’s cultural capital, where you’ll be staying in a wonderful traditional riad within the medina. Overnight in Fes.

Day 3:Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert (Approx. 8-9 hours / 470 km)

After breakfast, drive through the picturesque middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane, a clean town that has earned the nickname “the Switzerland of Morocco,” followed by the cedar forest of Azrou where wild Barbary macaques live. Visit the apple pitting center Midelt then descend through the beautiful Ziz Valley, stop for a panoramic view at a verdant oasis planted known for its palms.

By the afternoon, you will be in the Merzouga Desert, where camels will be waiting to take you on a sunset hike across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Relax at a luxury desert camp, at night you will be served with a traditional dinner, and Berber music beneath the stars. Overnight at desert camp in the sahara.

Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Todgha Gorge – Dades Valley (Approx. 6-7 hours / 270 km)

Say goodbye to the desert and head to Rissani, a town famous for its traditional souk and spiritual history. On market days, the town comes to life with local wares, including spices and dates, and various handicrafts. After a stroll in the Market, we keep driving in the direction of the Todgha Gorges, a deep canyon flanked by towering limestone walls that soar 300 meters in the air—great for a scenic walk or an impromptu photo-op. Post lunch onwards, drive through the delightful Dades Valley, cauliflower of rock, pitted by tiny pinnacles dwarfing the kasbahs. Spend the night in a lovely riad in the valley.

Day 5: Dades – Skoura – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech (Approx. 6-7 hours / 330 km)

On the last day of your trip, take a leisurely drive via the Route of a Thousand Kasbahs, pass through the rose valley and Skoura palm groves. What kind of accommodations will we stay in?

You’ll stay in carefully selected accommodations that reflect the beauty and culture of Morocco. In cities like Marrakech and Fes, you’ll stay in charming riads in the medina. In the desert, you’ll sleep in a traditional yet comfortable Berber-style camp under the stars. Options range from standard to luxury we’ll match your preference and budget.

Is the camel ride in the desert difficult or uncomfortable?

The camel ride is a highlight for many travelers and offers an unforgettable view of the dunes at sunset. While it can be a bit bumpy, it’s usually quite manageable, and the ride is paced gently. If you have back or mobility issues, let us know in advance we can arrange a 4×4 transfer to the camp instead.

What should I pack for this tour?

Pack comfortable clothes suitable for both warm days and cooler evenings, especially in the desert. Are meals included during the tour?

Breakfast is included daily, and dinners are included in more remote locations like the Dades Valley and the desert. In cities such as Marrakech and Fes, meals are not included so you can explore local restaurants and cuisine. Your driver/guide will always recommend great places to eat.

A Perfect 5-Day Moroccan Escape!

Our 5 days tour in Morocco was short but so memorable! From Fes, we traveled around Morocco, delved deep into ancient medinas, sampled the local cuisine, and had a cultural experience second to none. The main highlight definitely was the Sahara Desert we rode camels in golden dunes and slept under the stars in a luxury camp as if straight out of a movie. All was meticulously arranged, and our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel safe and is welcome. Would highly recommend this tour to someone who is limited on time but really wants to get a good feel for Morocco!

Incredible Journey in Just 5 Days

I never thought I would see and feel so much in only five days! From the historical beauty of Fes, to the absolute madness of the desert in Merzouga and the sheer insanity in Marrakech – it was quite the cultural, natural and adventurous mix. The 4×4 tour on the Atlas Mountains and the stop at Ait Ben Haddou were the personal favorites. Our driver was so professional and so sweet, he made sure we were comfortable at all times. Morocco completely captivated me and this tour was the best way to explore it!

Very Important Things to Know Before You Go
5 Day Morocco Tour from Tangier

Pack for Different Climates

Morocco offers diverse weather across regions. Expect hot days in the desert, cool nights in the mountains, and moderate temps along the coast. Bring layers, a scarf or hat for sun protection, and a warm jacket for cooler evenings.

Cash is King in Rural Areas

While cities accept cards, many villages, desert stops, and local shops don’t. Bring enough Moroccan dirhams, especially for snacks, souvenirs, and tips along the way.

Be Respectful of Local Culture

Morocco is a Muslim country. Dress modestly, especially in rural areas and when visiting religious sites. Women may prefer wearing scarves in more conservative towns.

Desert Essentials

For the camel ride and desert stay, wear comfortable pants (not shorts), closed shoes or sandals, and bring a small backpack with water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a flashlight.

Internet May Be Limited

Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and riads, but don’t expect strong connections everywhere especially in the desert. Download maps and entertainment in advance.

Local SIM or Roaming Plan

If you need reliable communication or internet on the go, consider buying a local SIM card or ensuring your mobile plan covers Morocco.

Expect Some Long Drives

Morocco is a large country and this tour covers a lot. Enjoy the scenery, bring snacks, and consider a travel pillow for comfort on the road.

Tipping is Appreciated

Tipping your driver/guide, hotel staff, and local guides is a common and appreciated gesture in Morocco. Keep small bills for this purpose.

Be Open to Adventure

Part of what makes Morocco magical is its unpredictability. Be flexible, open-minded, and ready to experience real moments whether it’s dancing under desert stars or sipping mint tea with a nomadic family.

Stay Hydrated and Mind What You Eat

Traveling through different climates and regions especially the desert can dehydrate you quickly. Always carry a bottle of water (your driver can help you find clean bottled water on the way). When it comes to food, Moroccan cuisine is delicious, but it may be spiced differently than you’re used to. To avoid stomach upsets, ease into unfamiliar dishes, avoid raw foods in small roadside places, and consider bringing basic medication like probiotics or anti-nausea tablets just in case.
