We depart in the morning from your Riad/Hotel in Marrakech. your friendly driver-guide from Desert Excursion Morocco will meet you and start the drive through the beautiful High Atlas Mountains which leads you via the twisting Tizi n’Tichka pass. Along the way we make a few rest stops for photos and to visit traditional Berber villages built of adobe and stones.
Later we start with our first major stop the iconic Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, also popular Hollywood filming destination (Gladiator and Game of Thrones were shot here). After visiting the fortified village and having lunch here we keep on towards Ouarzazate, the so-called Hollywood of Africa. Eastward lies the Valley of Roses which takes us into the dramatic landscapes of Dades Valley, where you will spend the night in a delightful guesthouse nestled in the midst of dramatic rock formations with a lush garden.
After breakfast, we depart Dades and go further into Sahara area. We pause at the magnificent Todra Gorges, with huge rock walls on either side of the rivers’ course. It’s a photo op and a nice place to stretch your legs. Next, we drive on to Erfoud, and from there to Merzouga, the town at the base of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, your camel caravan awaits! You’ll take your camel and ride across the golden dunes at sunset, which is magical and quiet and peaceful.
At the end of the day, as you reach your Berber desert camp, you will be greeted with a refreshing tea, have a local dinner, sit by fire under the stars with the Berber music and learn about the history and stories of the Berber people of the Sahara. Sleep in a comfy tent under a blanket of silence provided by the Sahara.
Rise early to see the awesome sunrise over the dunes before breakfast and a hot shower at the camp. From there we initiate our journey to the north, to Fes, driving through Ziz Valley with its long oasis and old kasbahs. We pause for lunch at Midelt, then push on through the Middle Atlas Mountains, where the landscape changes dramatically. At Azrou, pass through the cedar forest, and if you are lucky, you will spot a wild Barbary macaque.

Unforgettable 4 days desert Marrakech to Fes tour! Our Desert Excursion Morocco guide, Mohamed, was super friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel so at ease throughout the entire trip. The landscapes we traversed, from the High Atlas Mountains to the dunes of Merzouga, were stunners. It was so magical to ride a camel out into the desert at sunset and spend the night in a camp under the stars. The accommodations & meals, everything was coordinated smoothly. We even sat down for tea with a nomadic family, which felt very genuine. I am highly recommend to do it for anyone who who want to see the true meaning of Morocco.
Desert Excursion Morocco have gone above and beyond for our 4 day trip. The driver, guide, Mohamed was professional, fun and gave all kind of knowledge of everywhere we went. From Marrakech to Fes, the surprises came at us thick and fast—green valley to the Sahara Desert, and ancient kasbahs to boot. The ride on the camels and the overnight camp were real highlights. Everything went very smoothly, all felt very personable and never rushed. And we got to visit local villages and meet incredible people. The best mix of adventure/exploration, culture, and comfort. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone.
Morocco offers diverse weather across regions. Expect hot days in the desert, cool nights in the mountains, and moderate temps along the coast. Bring layers, a scarf or hat for sun protection, and a warm jacket for cooler evenings.
While cities accept cards, many villages, desert stops, and local shops don’t. Bring enough Moroccan dirhams, especially for snacks, souvenirs, and tips along the way.
Morocco is a Muslim country. Dress modestly, especially in rural areas and when visiting religious sites. Women may prefer wearing scarves in more conservative towns.
For the camel ride and desert stay, wear comfortable pants (not shorts), closed shoes or sandals, and bring a small backpack with water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a flashlight.
Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and riads, but don’t expect strong connections everywhere especially in the desert. Download maps and entertainment in advance.
If you need reliable communication or internet on the go, consider buying a local SIM card or ensuring your mobile plan covers Morocco.
Morocco is a large country and this tour covers a lot. Enjoy the scenery, bring snacks, and consider a travel pillow for comfort on the road.
Tipping your driver/guide, hotel staff, and local guides is a common and appreciated gesture in Morocco. Keep small bills for this purpose.
Part of what makes Morocco magical is its unpredictability. Be flexible, open-minded, and ready to experience real moments whether it’s dancing under desert stars or sipping mint tea with a nomadic family.
Traveling through different climates and regions especially the desert can dehydrate you quickly. Always carry a bottle of water (your driver can help you find clean bottled water on the way). When it comes to food, Moroccan cuisine is delicious, but it may be spiced differently than you’re used to. To avoid stomach upsets, ease into unfamiliar dishes, avoid raw foods in small roadside places, and consider bringing basic medication like probiotics or anti-nausea tablets just in case.
