The first day of the 3 Days From Fes to the Desert (Merzouga) will commence with an early hotel or riad pickup in Fes. We will drive south; traversing the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop we will be making is in Ifrane, this town is known as the “Little Switzerland of Morocco” due to the architecture, clean environment. Next, we make our way to Azrou, pausing to visit the Cedar Forest where the free apes are to be found. You may approach them slowly and take pictures. After that, we keep driving through Berber villages and over the Atlas Mountains, before settling in the Berber town of Midelt and subsequently Errachidia, after which we take a detour to drive through the breathtaking Ziz Valley, a strip of oases dotted with majestic canyons.

In the afternoon we reach the enchanting desert town of Merzouga. You will meet your camel caravan at the edge of the dunes of Erg Chebbi and start an unforgettable camel ride through the golden Erg Chebbi dunes during the sunset. Your luxury desert camp will provide your dinner and you can enjoy some Berber music underneath the stars. Overnight in a luxury camp.

Day 2:Merzouga Desert Excursion – Nomad Villages – Khamlia – Desert Sights – Hotel Stay

Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the sand near to your camp. Today is spent discovering the region of Merzouga. We begin with a visit to the village of Khamlia. Next to the nomadic Berber families who lives behind the Erg Chebbi dunes, get to discover something of their simple but wealthy lifestyle.

Afterwards, we continue to the old mines of Miffis and enjoy panoramic deserts views. Later, we’ll pause for lunch, where we’ll try out the local specialty Berber pizza in a typical restaurant. After lunch we will visit one of the desert oases in the area. Finally, we transfer you to a charming hotel for overnight stay.

Day 3:Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Middle Atlas – Fes (470 km / approx. 8–9 hours)

After breakfast in your hotel, we set off returning to Fes. We will first visit Rissani which is the starting point of the Alaouite dynasty. We’ll visit its vibrant traditional souk, renowned for spices, handcrafted local goods, and fresh dates. We then drive on to Erfoud, a town famous for its fossil workshops and date palms. We drive back once more through the Ziz Valley, beautiful as before but with some different stops for photos.

For lunch we stop in Midelt, a town between the folds of the Ayachi Mountains. During the afternoon we drive through the cedar forest woods of the Middle Atlas where we will have another opportunity of seeing the Barbary apes. Incredible experience super Amazing

How not exclaim, with words failing us, the 3-day desert trip from Fes to Merzouga with Desert Excursion Morocco was an experience! The tour was planned just right, we had awesome stops in the middle Atlas mountains, ifran, and the spectacular ziz valley. Riding camels into the dunes at sunset was magical, and spending the night in a luxury camp was relaxing as well as culturally enriching with live Berber music. I especially enjoyed the trip to the nomad family and Gnawa music in Khamlia. Our guide Youssef was well-informed, friendly and made our trip memorable. Highly suggest this trip for those who want adventure and culture.

Very Important Things to Know Before You Go
3 days tour from Fes to Merzouga

Pack for Different Climates

Morocco offers diverse weather across regions. Expect hot days in the desert, cool nights in the mountains, and moderate temps along the coast. Bring layers, a scarf or hat for sun protection, and a warm jacket for cooler evenings.

Cash is King in Rural Areas

While cities accept cards, many villages, desert stops, and local shops don’t. Bring enough Moroccan dirhams, especially for snacks, souvenirs, and tips along the way.

Be Respectful of Local Culture

Morocco is a Muslim country. Dress modestly, especially in rural areas and when visiting religious sites. Women may prefer wearing scarves in more conservative towns.

Desert Essentials

For the camel ride and desert stay, wear comfortable pants (not shorts), closed shoes or sandals, and bring a small backpack with water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a flashlight.

Internet May Be Limited

Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and riads, but don’t expect strong connections everywhere especially in the desert. Download maps and entertainment in advance.

Local SIM or Roaming Plan

If you need reliable communication or internet on the go, consider buying a local SIM card or ensuring your mobile plan covers Morocco.

Expect Some Long Drives

Morocco is a large country and this tour covers a lot. Enjoy the scenery, bring snacks, and consider a travel pillow for comfort on the road.

Tipping is Appreciated

Tipping your driver/guide, hotel staff, and local guides is a common and appreciated gesture in Morocco. Keep small bills for this purpose.

Be Open to Adventure

Part of what makes Morocco magical is its unpredictability. Be flexible, open-minded, and ready to experience real moments whether it’s dancing under desert stars or sipping mint tea with a nomadic family.

Stay Hydrated and Mind What You Eat

Traveling through different climates and regions especially the desert can dehydrate you quickly. Always carry a bottle of water (your driver can help you find clean bottled water on the way). When it comes to food, Moroccan cuisine is delicious, but it may be spiced differently than you’re used to. To avoid stomach upsets, ease into unfamiliar dishes, avoid raw foods in small roadside places, and consider bringing basic medication like probiotics or anti-nausea tablets just in case.
