3 days tour Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga

3 day Morocco Sahara tour

Day 1:Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga – Camel Trek (Approx. 470 km / 8-9 hours)

An experienced driver guide from Desert Excursion Morocco will pick up you from your riad or hotel in Fes then drive to the Sahara Desert across the Middle Atlas Mountains on the way we stop in Ifran often called as “Little Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and neat streets. Next, to the cedar forest on the outskirts of Azrou to behold the fun-loving Barbary apes in their native environment. The drive traverses the town of Midelt and the magnificent Ziz Valley, punctuated by lush date palms and impressive gorges.

We reach the gateway to the Sahara: Merzouga, by late afternoon. You’ll Mount your camel and head into the sweeping, golden waves of the dunes. Experience a stunning sunset before your luxurious desert camp and a traditional Moroccan dinner is served with live Berber music beneath the stars. Spend the night in a luxury tented camp.

Day 2:Merzouga – Rissani – Todgha Gorges – Dades Valley (Approx. 270 km / 6-7 hours)

Rise and shine to experience the desert sunrise for yourself. On our final morning, following breakfast and a quick wash at the camp, we head to Rissani, an ancient trading centre known for its bustling souks and markets. You’ll have an opportunity to see the traditional way of life and may even buy some dates or local crafts. Next is a drive through the bumbling town of Erfoud, shop windows glistening with fossils under the harsh desert landscape to the dramatic Todgha Gorges.

These immense canyon walls climb some 300m (984 ft) and provide one of the more jaw-dropping locales found in southern Morocco. After a walk at the river and a lunch in the area, we drive on to the picturesque Valley of the Dades. Renowned for its distinctive rock formations and fortified villages, it’s also where you’ll be spending the night in a charming riad with views of the valley.

Day 3:Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech (Approx. 330 km / 6-7 hours)

There is still more to see after breakfast as we make our way along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. We’ll drive on through the Rose Valley, particularly lovely in spring, when the roses are in bloom. We then continue to the palm groves of Skoura, en route to Ouarzazate known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” You can explore the famous Atlas Film Studios or the historic Taourirt Kasbah. Later on, to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and fortified village that has been Hollywood in many films as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.

After visiting this beautiful ksar, we cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi n’ Tichka pass (2260 m), and admiring creations of nature, as we travel through the twisting roads with its veritable chasms, and radiant valleys. We expect to reach Marrakech in late afternoon or early evening, we will be dropping you off at your Marrakech hotel, marking the end of the 3 days Fes tour to Marrakech tour.

Best tour in my life!!

Beyond amazing 3 day fes to Marrakech tour. We had a friendly, informative guide who made every stop special. Swooping and riding camels at sunset in the dunes of Erg Chebbi seemed dreamlike. It was a fabulous camp in the desert, clean and really well done up with food and music. I highly recommend this tour if you are looking for a genuine Moroccan experience in a short period of time.

Very Important Things to Know Before You Go
3 days desert tour from Fes to Marrakech

Pack for Different Climates

Morocco offers diverse weather across regions. Expect hot days in the desert, cool nights in the mountains, and moderate temps along the coast. Bring layers, a scarf or hat for sun protection, and a warm jacket for cooler evenings.

Cash is King in Rural Areas

While cities accept cards, many villages, desert stops, and local shops don’t. Bring enough Moroccan dirhams, especially for snacks, souvenirs, and tips along the way.

Be Respectful of Local Culture

Morocco is a Muslim country. Dress modestly, especially in rural areas and when visiting religious sites. Women may prefer wearing scarves in more conservative towns.

Desert Essentials

For the camel ride and desert stay, wear comfortable pants (not shorts), closed shoes or sandals, and bring a small backpack with water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a flashlight.

Internet May Be Limited

Wi-Fi is available in most hotels and riads, but don’t expect strong connections everywhere especially in the desert. Download maps and entertainment in advance.

Local SIM or Roaming Plan

If you need reliable communication or internet on the go, consider buying a local SIM card or ensuring your mobile plan covers Morocco.

Expect Some Long Drives

Morocco is a large country and this tour covers a lot. Enjoy the scenery, bring snacks, and consider a travel pillow for comfort on the road.

Tipping is Appreciated

Tipping your driver/guide, hotel staff, and local guides is a common and appreciated gesture in Morocco. Keep small bills for this purpose.

Be Open to Adventure

Part of what makes Morocco magical is its unpredictability. Be flexible, open-minded, and ready to experience real moments whether it’s dancing under desert stars or sipping mint tea with a nomadic family.

Stay Hydrated and Mind What You Eat

Traveling through different climates and regions especially the desert can dehydrate you quickly. Always carry a bottle of water (your driver can help you find clean bottled water on the way). When it comes to food, Moroccan cuisine is delicious, but it may be spiced differently than you’re used to. To avoid stomach upsets, ease into unfamiliar dishes, avoid raw foods in small roadside places, and consider bringing basic medication like probiotics or anti-nausea tablets just in case.
