Your journey begins early in the morning with a pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech by your friendly, English-speaking driver-guide from Desert Excursion Morocco. Traveling in a comfortable air-conditioned 4×4 or minibus, you’ll head south toward the High Atlas Mountains. As the road winds through scenic valleys and Berber villages, you’ll ascend the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass at over 2,200 meters, where we’ll pause for breathtaking panoramic photos.
Along the way, your guide will share stories about local culture, traditions, and the history of the region. We’ll make our way to the stunning Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars (fortified villages). You’ll explore its narrow alleys, clay buildings, and ancient architecture that have been featured in films like Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and Game of Thrones.
Your guide will provide insights into its historical and cultural significance. After some free time to explore and take photos, we continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you can visit the Atlas Film Studios (optional) to see real movie sets or explore the Kasbah of Taourirt, once home to the powerful Glaoui family. Lunch will be enjoyed at a local restaurant with a view over the valley or kasbah.
In the late afternoon, we begin the return drive to Marrakech, passing once again through the Atlas Mountains with a few stops to stretch or take photos. You’ll arrive back at your accommodation by early evening, filled with memories and a deeper understanding of southern Morocco’s charm and beauty. End of your Marrakech Day Trip.

I had such a wonderful experience on the Ait Ben Haddou day trip with Desert Excursion Morocco. From the moment we were picked up, Mohamed made us feel comfortable and welcome. He shared so much local insight during the drive through the Atlas Mountains, which made the journey even more special. Ait Ben Haddou was absolutely breathtaking, and Mohamed took the time to explain its history and cultural importance. We also explored Ouarzazate and visited the film studios, which was a fun surprise! Everything was well-organized, the vehicle was clean and comfortable, and the scenery along the way was stunning. Highly recommend this tour if you’re in Marrakech!
